How do I set an example for my sons?

So many times the mental cultivation in the gym is that I am facing and doing things that sometimes are uncomfortable. They're hard. I'm pushing. I'm forcing my body to do things at times that it doesn't want to do. But I am building mental health, mental resilience, so that I know, hey, when it's time to jump into action, I'm there mentally and I'm there physically. And in these ways we become an example. Become an example for our children, for the other men around us, for our community. People know that they can rely on us. If they need something moved, if they need a hand with something, if there's something that needs to get fixed at the church, the men are physically able to go there and pour concrete for six hours like it's nothing, or change out a door, or fix the ceiling, whatever it is. The men are physically prepared. And they show this example to their sons. One of the things that I grew up with, unfortunately, was that my dad was out of shape. But I made a promise to myself that I would never be out of shape for my own children. And so I was probably 36 or so when I got an office job, 37ish, and within two months I had put on like 15 pounds of bad weight, all because I wasn't roofing anymore but I was still eating like a roofer every day, and it was the worst shape I had been in. And I realized I've got to do something. I've got to get in the gym. I was rolling jiu-jitsu a lot at the time. I was doing all those things so that I could set an example for my sons of how to keep themselves in shape and how to keep themselves prepared in life, and that I could show them through my example of discipline that dad was always working at something towards his goals. This is so important, because if our children don't want to emulate us, there's going to be a dissonance between what we say and who we are, because they're not going to want to be like us. We as men, especially with sons, need to set that example for them of what a man should be like, both physically, mentally, and of course spiritually.
