Should I have icons in my house, and what do I do with them?

I am not there kissing them because they need me to kiss them. I am kissing them because I need them. I need Christ, I need the Mother of God, I need the saints to minister to me, to give me strength and to encourage me and to bear my burden with me. How many times do we come home and we've had a difficult day? The first thing we need to do is pray before our icons. I often lay my head right on the Mother of God and pray to her, ask her to carry the burdens that are weighing me down. This is what we receive: tremendous help and ministry from Christ, from the Mother of God, from the saints, that is brought to us through the presence of the holy icons. This is why our holy fathers and mothers were willing to risk their life and to die for this veneration, because they knew this is the firm support of all Christians. I pray that you acquire icons to have in your home. It's good to have at least one icon in every room of the house, if you can. Obviously we don't put icons in bathrooms, I think everybody probably knows that. But find a couple of significant icons that you can really grow close to, that you can grow close to the saints, and there will become a certain familiarity when you look at those icons, when you look at their face, and you also know that they are looking at you, they are interceding for you.
