Why does God feel absent from my heart?

St Paul says we have to empty ourselves. Kenosis in the Greek. We get so jammed up with all this stuff that takes up space in our heart: bitterness, unforgiveness, resentments, hurts, memories, unfairness, sometimes anger at God. We end up filling our heart with all this trash. And then we say, where are you, Lord? And he says, there is no space there.
