Manhood
Why should a Christian man care about being physically strong?
Preparedness means that I'm ready to tackle whatever life throws at me when it throws it at me. And the thing is, when you have a wife and children and you live in the world, there's lots of things that you have to do that are physically oriented: taking your kids to the park, taking them on walks, going on hikes, changing spare tires, fixing things around the house. God forbid you have a catastrophe at your home, you want to be in shape, because if you're not in shape there's no time to get in shape when catastrophe strikes. A storm, a power outage, a fire, an invader, any of those things, you need to be physically prepared. I'm so fond of the saying, stay ready so you don't have to get ready. This gives you that constant preparedness in any of life's situations and makes you feel like you are capable of actually facing adversity when it comes to you. There's nothing worse than being underdeveloped and weak and then being faced with something that pushes you and you realize, man, I'm not prepared for this. That is both a mental and a physical attribute that we have to cultivate.
