How do I get rid of a thought I can't shake?
Our minds contribute to our emotional state, because without thoughts we wouldn't be feeling this way or that way. We wouldn't be drawn away into anxiety and fear and depression and all these other emotional states that so often plague us as people. We have to learn how to slow down our life to get rid of the thoughts. And if we question a thought, not to talk to it, write it down. Bring it to the priest. Ask him, what should I do with this thought? So many times when people simply begin to reveal their thoughts, they realise that their thoughts are just smoke and mirrors. They're just illusion. They're just distraction. They're just temptation. They don't have any real bearing in reality. Thoughts are nebulous. They're like clouds. If you want to keep your mind sunny, you let the clouds pass by. You don't engage in them. You don't try to read into them. You don't try to figure them out. And if we have thoughts that are particularly disturbing to us, we write them down. We ask for correction. We ask for direction. We ask for a way to see an end to that thought so that we're not overcome by it.
