How does the devil use partial truths to deceive you?

His image is the 'truth cookie': a chocolate-chip cookie where every chip is a small truth but the dough carries a little arsenic. The devil does not tell big lies — he feeds a person nine truths and slips in a false tenth, getting them to accept accurate propositions ('this person disappointed you, and so have others') and then a poisoned conclusion ('no one will ever be faithful to me'). That false conclusion then runs like a bad line of code in the background of every relationship, and he says this is especially how the devil works on people carrying painful or traumatizing experiences.
