Manhood
Is it okay for a Christian to fight back?
If you look at most physical altercations, they are usually avoidable. Most people don't want to actually fight. Most people just want to be prideful and humiliate and intimidate the other person. So if you don't have a problem with that, being humble and walking away, you most likely are not going to get into any kind of physical altercation. De-escalation is the key. That is the key. But do we have a right to defend our children, our wife, and even ourself if somebody escalates to the point of violence? Yes, but we should do everything in our power to minimize any and all violence to whatever degree possible. Certainly, if I was out with my children and someone tried to fight me, I would say, hey man, I'm with my kids, I don't want to fight, I don't want problems. I would take my kids, I would walk away, I would back away, I would do whatever, even if it looked weak and humbling. And that's the point, is that most people can't humble themselves. Their pride and their ego get involved. And when it gets involved, that's what it takes two to tango means. You have to escalate it also. But certainly, self-defense is called for in situations where somebody is endangering our safety or the safety of our children.
