Manhood
What is the manliest thing a man can do?
His answer is silence — 'the destroyer of all boys.' Sitting alone in silent prayer forces a man to face both whether God is actually there and the existential reality of who he is as a man, with nothing to hide behind; silence brings every insecurity, fear, and anxiety to light. He calls prayer in silence the most difficult and therefore most manly thing in the world, and challenges men to attempt thirty minutes a day of silently saying the Jesus prayer — promising they will never have hit such a rock wall of difficulty, but that in it they are actually exposed to God.
